Discovery Call
Our design process begins with an introductory phone call, whether you first contact us by email, text, or direct message. The purpose of the call is to become acquainted and discuss project objectives, and to then determine if a site visit is warranted
In-person Meeting
The initial site meeting lasts about one hour. This is an opportunity to determine the degree of fit between your expectations and our capabilities. It is also the potential start of a long-term partnership and ideally includes all decision-makers. We check the site for access, get a feel for the land, and discuss dreams and budgets. There is no charge.
Design Contract
A design contract is sent by email following the site meeting. Once the signed contract and retainer fee are received the design process begins. A copy of your home’s site survey and construction drawings are very helpful at this stage.
Concept Design
The design step includes a full property survey and a thorough review of local zoning restrictions and applicable bylaws. A concept drawing is completed for your review and input. Each iteration of the drawing is an opportunity to refine the overall style, to add detail, and to frame the experience you hope to capture. The project budget is established at the end of this step.
Drawings
The project moves to the construction drawing step with a signed contract and deposit. Permits are requested, and other consultants are employed as required for structural engineering and detailed surveying.
Construction
Construction begins once all permit and approvals are obtained.
First payment is due at this time.
